Quick Summary

In short: most managers have never been trained to handle a menopause conversation, and it shows. CIPD research found 67% of women aged 40 to 60 with menopause symptoms say those symptoms have a mostly negative effect on them at work. Whether an employee feels supported or starts job hunting usually comes down to one person: her line manager. DaisyHR’s menopause training for managers gives that person the knowledge, the words and the legal guardrails.

Why Menopause Training for Managers Matters

Your managers are the first person an employee tells. Or the reason she never does.

The numbers are blunt. Eight in ten women say their employer has not shared information, trained staff or put a menopause absence policy in place (Fawcett Society, 2022). Over half of women with symptoms, 53%, have been unable to go into work because of them at some point (CIPD, 2023). One in six has considered leaving because of a lack of support, and 6% actually left.

Untrained managers are also a tribunal risk. In Lynskey v Direct Line, an employee with four years of good performance was managed as a performance problem after her menopause symptoms started. Her manager marked her down, refused adjustments and triggered a disciplinary route instead of a support route. The tribunal awarded £64,645. Every failure in that case happened at line-manager level.

The law is moving too. Under the Employment Rights Act 2025, employers can publish voluntary menopause action plans from 6 April 2026, and publication becomes mandatory for employers with 250 or more employees from the 2027/28 reporting year. A plan is paper. Trained managers are what make it real. If you have not written yours yet, start with our free menopause action plan template.

What Good Menopause Training Covers

1

The Facts, Without the Biology Lecture

  • What menopause and perimenopause actually are, and why symptoms can start in a woman’s early 40s
  • The symptoms that show up at work: hot flushes, disrupted sleep, brain fog, anxiety, fatigue
  • Why 73% of women aged 40 to 60 in work are experiencing or have experienced symptoms
2

The Law Your Managers Are Carrying

  • Equality Act 2010 risk on three fronts: disability, sex and age discrimination
  • Rooney v Leicester City Council: the appeal ruling that menopause symptoms can amount to a disability
  • What tribunals award when managers get it wrong, and the comments that end up read out in evidence
3

The Conversation

  • How to respond in the first 60 seconds when an employee raises menopause
  • What never to say, and why “my wife went through this” is not empathy
  • Confidentiality: who needs to know, and who does not
4

Adjustments and Absence

  • The reasonable adjustments for menopause a manager can agree on the spot, and what goes to HR
  • How to manage absence and performance without discriminating
  • When to involve occupational health

Every session is delivered by a CIPD-qualified consultant who has managed these situations in real workplaces, not read about them in a slide deck.

What Your Managers Can Do After the Training

  • Hold a menopause conversation without panic, platitudes or legal landmines
  • Recognise when absence or a performance dip might be symptom-driven, and respond to the cause
  • Agree simple adjustments on the spot and route bigger ones to HR properly
  • Record conversations and adjustments in a way that protects the business
  • Spot the discrimination risks before they become a claim

Training is one part of doing menopause at work properly. Policy, adjustments and manager capability work together, and we can help with all three.

How Much Does Menopause Training Cost?

Priced by format and headcount, not a rate card designed to confuse you. Tell us how many managers you have and which format fits, and we will send a fixed quote within one working day. If a lunch and learn is all your business needs, we will tell you that rather than sell you a programme.

Founder & HR Director

Samantha Boyle

MCIPD · Fractional HR Director, Bolton & North West

Sam spent 10 years building HR functions in North West businesses, not just managing the day-to-day, but shaping how companies hire, develop and retain their people as they scale.

Before DaisyHR, she led HR across manufacturing, professional services and high-growth SMEs. The businesses where HR wasn't a support function. It was a commercial lever. She's seen what happens when companies get their people infrastructure right early, and what it costs when they don't.

She's also been in the room when it kicks off. Disciplinaries that escalate. Grievances that get personal. Redundancy programmes that need handling properly. That's the bit most HR consultants outsource or avoid. Sam runs toward it.

She started DaisyHR because she kept seeing the same gap: businesses that needed strategic HR thinking and someone who'd roll their sleeves up when required. Not one or the other. Both.

What Sam brings

  • Helped growing businesses get their people structure right before it becomes a problem
  • Workforce planning and organisational design that grows with you
  • People strategy that connects to commercial goals
  • The calm, experienced presence when difficult conversations need having
  • CIPD Chartered (Level 7) with a specialism in employment relations

Bolton based. North West focused. Strategic when you need a plan. In your corner when you need backup.

Every DaisyHR consultant is CIPD qualified with a minimum of ten years' senior HR experience. We don't use generalists. We use people who've sat at the board table and navigated the exact situations our clients face.

Sam is CIPD Chartered (Level 7) with a specialism in employment relations. She has trained managers across the North West and been in the room when the conversations go wrong: the tribunal claims, the grievances, the resignations that started with one bad comment. The training exists so your managers never supply the evidence.

Frequently Asked Questions

Not yet, for most employers. But from the 2027/28 reporting year the Employment Rights Act 2025 makes menopause action plans mandatory for employers with 250 or more employees, and manager training is one of the actions the government guidance expects plans to cover. For smaller employers, training is the cheapest insurance available against Equality Act claims that regularly settle or resolve in five figures.

Half a day for the full live workshop, 90 minutes for the online session, or 45 to 60 minutes for a whole-team lunch and learn. Most North West SMEs get what they need from a single session plus the Manager Conversation Guide.

Managers and HR first, because they carry the legal risk and handle the conversations. A whole-team lunch and learn is a strong second step: it normalises the topic so employees raise issues early instead of resigning quietly.

Yes. The 90-minute online session covers the same ground as the live workshop and works for remote and multi-site teams. We deliver it live rather than as a pre-recorded video, because managers learn this by asking the awkward questions.

It depends on format and numbers, so we quote fixed prices rather than publish a misleading “from” figure. Ask for a quote and you will have one within one working day, with no follow-up sales calls.

No single measure does. Training plus a policy plus documented adjustments is the combination tribunals look for. Training is the piece that stops the incident happening in the first place; the policy and records are what prove you acted properly if it does.
